In September, the 21st China International SME Expo was held in Guangzhou with AI empowering SMEs as its theme, gathering many domestic and foreign SMEs to showcase AI innovations. Several Guangdong exhibitors said tax authorities' precise support and compliance guidance accompanied them as they broke into larger markets. Guangdong Kekaida Intelligent Robot, a first-time exhibitor, develops inspection robots for overhead transmission lines; its general manager said R&D expense super-deductions eased funding pressure and helped the firm join the qualified supplier lists of power systems such as State Grid. Guangdong Aican Technology exhibited its cooking robots, which use advanced AI and precision mechanical design to mimic chefs, and has built a compliance management system covering multiple business segments. Going global was a recurring theme: Kuku Intelligent Robot's coffee robots achieved 100% domestic content for core parts thanks to the Greater Bay Area supply chain, cutting entry-level prices from over one million yuan to around 100,000 yuan. Pony.ai, showing autonomous driving technology, also drew foreign buyers. To meet cross-border tax needs, tax authorities piloted a flexible-supervision plus front-loaded service model with expert teams; Guangzhou tax authorities intervened early on complex matters such as Pony.ai's overseas indirect equity transfers and provided advance tax rulings. Targeting asset-light, R&D-heavy tech SMEs, Guangdong tax departments implemented R&D super-deductions and small-company income tax breaks to cut innovation costs, and provided regular coaching and risk alerts to shift firms from passive to proactive compliance.
